LL, the Revolutionary War, when they held off Benedict Arnold's ragtag army at Quebec. Of course, Arnold was trying to take a fortified city with militia who were outnumbered by regulars dug in behind superb fortifications.

Once he suckered the Canadians and the British out in the open at Saratoga, he took them down handily. But that just saved America, it didn't steal Canada for us.

The other was the invasion of Canada during The War of 1812. The two main reasons for entering the war was to annex Canada and get some of the loot from Napoleon's inevitable victory. Our guys burnt up what eventually became Toronto, but pretty much ran away back home after that. And Napoleon turned out not to be such an inevitable victor. Fortunately, we weren't totally embarrassed when Andy Jackson saved face for us by winning The Battle of New Orleans. He won the battle after the war was over, but what else could one expect from the nation's first Democrat? <G>
