The coincidences between the SARS outbreak in Vancouver in April and the outbreak in July/August continue to build. The first July cases at the Kinsmen Place Lodge nursing home were health care workers. The outbreak is being managed by Fraser Health. At least one of the PCR positive patients was treated at Surrey Memorial Hospital, also administered by Fraser Health and about 4 miles from the Kinsmen Place Lodge. At least 19 health care workers at Surrey Memorial are under quarantine.

In April, one of the four SARS probable cases was transferred to Surrey Memorial Hospital from Royal Columbian Hospital.

Vancouver health authorities maintain that they have found no links between the two SARS outbreaks. Links are easily found in news stories currently available on the Internet.

"There is still only one documented case of transmission from a patient to a care provider," said Dr. Rob Parker, Fraser Health Authority deputy medical health officer, regarding the nurse. "That case involved Fraser Health's first and only probable SARS patient, who has been cared for uneventfully and continued to recover in Surrey Memorial Hospital since April 1, when she was transferred to that hospital from Royal Columbian. Nevertheless, we are maintaining maximum vigilance and precautions at all our hospitals, and certainly at RCH."
