"I'm not sure what we're going to do,'' said Liberty resident Ruth Traber, who with her husband had more than $600,000 in Carolina Investors. "We worked very hard for many years, and we're too old to start over.''

All told, an estimated $14 million was placed with Carolina Investors by about 400 Liberty-area residents. Statewide, roughly $275 million was invested in about 8,000 accounts when Carolina Investors closed. Most of that money belonged to Upstate residents."
