Thanks for the welcome. This is turning into one of the better threads for information and thoughtful commentary.

I think that there is a general wake-up needed in many American industries. More than states, it is the companies who define themselves by their various industries - which are increasingly experiencing significant overseas competition - that must change in order to survive and/or flourish. Federal protection of markets just isn't viable in the long term, unless quality of life deterioration is acceptable.

Free Trade is killing the American Textile industry. This was a given going in. A state like South Carolina has to change or die economically.
