Barron,

The much-touted cable delivery of the Net is still in its very, very
nascent stages with cable leader TCI (TCOMA) again leading the way with a
small market test in Sunnyvale, CA.

There are significant technical and capital hurdles which must be
traversed before CATV/Net access achieves appreciable roll-out.

One of the main problems are the lack of low-bandwidth return paths.
(Remember, most CATV ops are designed 1-way). Significant system up-
grading will be required.

Also many systems are not "tight" enough to handle cranky digital
traffic.

The breakout period for cable-system Net access will certainly be
late-1997. This on a franchise by franchise basis.

Leaders in this sphere are CMCSA, TCOMA, Cox Communications and of course
TWX. Related vendors include MOT and FTPS.

But when they get it all down, it will be LEVIATHAN!
