WF:

I have commented on this situation several times in the past on this thread. No matter how one views it, the numbers are shocking. Worse, the number of people who end up in jail and have committed no crime (as a result of the "plea bargain" game) is simply insane. The justice system in N America has become a joke.

If one has wealth, good lawyers will drain you financially, but at least you have a fighting chance in court.... so long as you don't run out of resources (the government has essentially unlimited resources) before a decision is handed down. But if you are poor, once into the court system, you are a Christian before the lions, in my opinion.

We have witnessed far too many folk who have lived large percentages of their lives in prison before finally being exonerated for crimes they did not commit. And for every one of these situations, there many more where the innocent person never does see his name cleared and simply serves out the time for having been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I have a very low opinion of the justice process as it is conducted these days and have brain-washed my offspring to just stay as far away as possible from anyone connected with it. Even when innocent, the chances of being found not guilty rate right up there with a coin toss as far as I am concerned and one will inevitably emerge either poverty stricken or darned close to it in any event..

Best, Earlie
