It all depends on your perspective and personal slant.
Up until Monica-gate, I believe that Clinton's presidency was one of the most successful in recent memory. Prosperity, peace, budget surpluses, very low unemployment, healthy world relations. The fact that the biggest scandal of his presidency was over a sexual affair speaks volumes in the wake of Iran-Contra, S&L crises, etc.
For some reason, the rightists seem to have developed a deep hatred of Clinton. I believe it was because he was so successful, and stole some of the thunder of the Contract On America. His reelection in '96 was a bitter blow to the extreme right, and they delighted in Monica-gate.
Removing emotion, and comparing results, shows that Clinton was far more successful than either Bushes. And that fact will leaving the extreme right writhing for years to come... |
