Ted,

Now I think you are being a bit partisan. I have not seen any of the qualities you express above with the possible exception of likability. I am unclear what's wrong with Bush when he speaks but it looks to me like he is suffering from an early onset of Alzheimer's. He seems to have a great deal of difficulty recalling what he wants to say.

Well, then you missed the discipline part. He goes to the press knowing exactly what he want to say, and that he should not stray from that. It may look tortured, but it works for Bush. It is strange how the politics works. Discipline works, being on message works, a free-wheeling give and take doesn't work (even though it is more entertaining for spectators).

If the election were held today, I think Bush is a shoo in.

I am surprise you say that, but in the hypothetical scenario of elections being held today, I think that would be the outcome. But the potential opponent (Democrat) is still one of 7 dwarfs. On the election eve, he will be a dragon slayer (well, at least a dwarf slayer).

radical/religious right is still very scary to most Jews

Politics (or religion) makes strange bedfellows, but apparently the religious right is very pro-Israel, outright Zionist. The other day, I was in a church a friend of my belongs to, and it is one of these non-establishment Christian (I am not sure of the terminology), but I think you could call it as part of the religious right (I guess), and they have the flag of Israel displayed with about the same prominance as the US flag.
