At the time of the "Mission Accomplished" strut, the official US death count in Iraq was 138. Some revision of those numbers was made later based on disposition of MIAs. Hence, I've seen numbers from 138 to 144. We're rapidly closing in on doubling that number, as you can see from

They are apparently using 139 (sum of periods 1 and 2) as their "strut" number. I had earlier used an "extrapolation", to say we would be about double the "strut" value by the end of August. Sadly, I expect we'll be close.
