What's up with the french? Can you imagine leaving elderly behind in such conditions and without AC.

I've already mentioned that in fairness, the climate in France is normally very temperate, with far less weather extremes than the Northeast of the US for example. Air conditioning has simply never been a necessity for the normal 2 weeks (maximum) of mid summer hot weather. This climate situation is really off the bell curve for them, and nobody could have anticipated that this would go on like this.

Moreover, that 35 hour work week of theirs is a brain dead idea, but isn't really to blame for the present situation either, which would have happened even without it.
