So why are people still agitating?

Because the jobs of the professional agitators are on the line, for one.

And because their hatred and fear of the hateful among their opponents linger.

And because they've been doing what they've been doing so long they don't know how to stop or what else to do with themselves.

It would be no different on the next swing. The evangelists wouldn't know how to stop either until we had a theocracy.
