Hi, PB, I know longs will not belive what I said anything. However, your question could be easyly anwsered by any doctor who knows how a live attenuated vaccine is deliveried to the vaccinees.

Make a phone call to NIH. They will tell you that the key for effecacy of a live attenuated vaccine is its administration system including trasportation and delivery to vaccinees because those live attenuated virus are easy inactivated during trasportation or at room temperature. The paper work for the insurance is also very important for medical cost and any side effect of the vaccination. Therefore, a change from injection to nasal sprad can save little. That is also the key effect that the vaccine will not have same effeacy when it used in population because only small scale and carefully designed clinical trial can strictly provent any thing which would decrease the effcacy of the live attenuated vaccines.

Please read above sentence carfully, which come from press release. The trial conducted in 5 age groups and 10 different areaes because attack rate of flu is not same in different areas and age groups. Therefore, about 15 kids was vaccinated and same number controls in each age group in every area. It is only about a middle scale trial, not a VERY VERY large scale trial. This trial indicate that the vaccine is effecteive but still need more clinical trial to confirm it, that is why AVIR will have another trial this winter. The efficacy of this trial is not comparable with injection vaccine because its efficacy comes from millions people used the vaccine.
