Synthetic diamonds will hit the 1/3 to 1 carat market. For sure those that can afford 2 to 5 carat diamonds will not settle for synthetic and brag every day that "their" is natural

actually there was a quote in the Wired article where the head of one of the synthetic places says something like "if she chooses 1 carat instead of 2 carats for the same price, i will bite your ass". they can move right up the size scale and it may be difficult to detect. De Beers is trying to promote sophisticated and expensive detection equipment, but with CVD diamonds detection may not be possible as CVD diamonds may actually better quality than real diamonds (they have no flaws).

but how is anybody going to brag that their diamond is natural? who's going to know? anybody who gets a diamond can claim that theirs is real. considering all the middlemen a diamond may pass through before the end user, it may be difficult to tell.
