I know this is only a reiteration of their annoncement, but at least it's now showing up on someone elses radar screen. I also had thought Alex Brown had raised their rating to a buy, not a strong buy...which is also good news. Maybe it's finally the time that this company starts getting the notice it's earned...

From Briefing.com...

GEMSTAR INTERNATIONAL GROUP (GMSTF) 18 +1 7/8. Shares of TV/video recording
products concern are benefitting from the report of better than expected 1st qtr results and an Alex.
Brown upgrade to "strong buy" from "buy" that followed the news. Within the first two hours of
trading, the stock has doubled yesterday's volume level , as well as 3-month average daily volume of
190,000 shares. Before merger costs associated with the acquisition of StarSight Telecast, Gemstar
reported net income of $8.5 million, or $0.18 a share. The results were 3 cents, or 20% ahead of
Wall Street views. Excluding revenues from VideoGuide and StarSight Telecast, the company's top-line
rose 95% and earnings per share increased 38%. The increase in revenue is attributable to the continued
growth in VCR Plus+ licensing income worldwide, as well as licensing revenues related to the company's
electronic program guide technology and intellectual property. Gemstar's VCR Plus+ instant programming
system is now a world standard for VCR programming. VCR Plus+, allows a user to record a television
show simply by entering a number - the PlusCode number - printed in television program guides.
