Yesterday I tried to see how close Surrey Memorial Hospital and Kinsmen Place Lodge were to each other. For the hospital, I actually ended up with the address of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, which is run by Fraser Health and located several miles from Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Surrey Memorial Hospital is at
13750 96th Avenue
Surrey, BC
V3V 1Z2

Kinsmen Place Lodge is at
13333 Old Yale Road
Surrey, BC
V3T 5A2

According to mapquest, the two facilities are 1.71 kilometers apart

Thus, in April two of the four probable SARS cases in British Columbia were at Surrey Memorial Hospital(probable SARS case #2 and a health care worker, probable SARS case #4, who contracted the disease while caring for her) and in July there was an outbreak of SARS CoV associated illness at Kinsman Place Lodge, about a mile away. Health care workers at Kinsmen were the first to show symptoms in July.

Thus, although SARS was transmitted to a health care worker at Surrey Memorial Hospital in April, and in July Health Care Workers at Kinsmen developed a flu-like conditions associated with detection of SARS CoV RNA and antibody, health officials were unable to link the two outbreaks (but Fraser Health has a Foundation to support Surrey Memorial Hospital and Fraser Health is managing the SARS outbreak at Kinsman Place).
