The "SARS-like" virus that infected a large number of elderly patients and staff at a Surrey long-term care facility appears to have spread to a second nursing home, health authorities said Tuesday.

At least nine of 100 residents at a home somewhere in the Lower Mainland have mild "cold-like" symptoms consistent with those caused by the same coronavirus that infected patients at Surrey's Kinsmen Place Lodge, said Dr. Roland Guasparini, chief medical officer for the Fraser Health Authority.

Guasparini refused to identify the second infected nursing home, saying only that it was in the "south Fraser region" encompassed by Surrey, White Rock, Delta and Langley.
