The US has a Gulliver problem - huge and strong but limited in what they can do. The US can't or won't attack any other nuclear power or NATO member. Plus, it only has the means to invade and occupy a couple of other rogue countries simultaneously.

So the rest of the world sits back and says yeah, you could flatten us one by one if you wanted to, but we all know you won't. Then the US suddenly has to compete in terms of ideology, economic influence, culture, etc.

And Americans are woefully unprepared to lead that struggle with their current piss-poor attitude toward anyone different.
