Actually, my dispute is not with the French people; it's with the French gov't. It has pissed been at the US ever since WW2. It has the opinion that somehow it should have emerged from that cataclysm as the leader of the Western world and a dominant world power. This in spite of the fact that the Germans ran over them in about 10 minutes. (Six weeks, actually. Effectively, little difference. Ask the English at Dunkirk.)

BTW, the English are not very fond of the French either. They've been screwed by them too many times.

So much for the geographic explanation.
