You obviously have some personal issue behind this. What is it? Much to much heat here to be a simple business issue.
Wrong, there are a bunch of people that have had to deal with prop 13 over the years on behalf of younger people or companies who do not benefit... I am only one and we are all pretty p!ssed off about it. Amy J another, Darfot and some others go ask them what they think. I remember in 1998 I had to negotiate with a bunch of elderly long time property owners to get rentals for my employees in San Mateo area. To talk to these people, you'd think THEY founded Oracle. They were out of state landlords. They wanted 10K/mo for their tract home in some cases. When they read that yahoo had a good quarter, they would call me up and demand a 25% rent increase which would have been $1000 more per month per tenant in the house, and my employees only take home $3-$4K/month.
A lot of real simpletons lived in CA 30 years ago and without any ability to generate wealth themselves, they have to sock it to their kids. That is what I think motivates people to be like this, an inability to succeed on their own. Anyway whatever it is, we have a real problem with this older generation and their passing subsidies for themselves, prop 13 was one. They need to survive on their own merits imho.
As far as Tandem, same deal. Please don't say ebay, yahoo etc should "just move"- tandem did not have any part in founding stanford or berkeley which is why SV is here. tandem was not a key player in the valley. Tandem was, however here when they passed that crybaby law prop 13 and now they own a bunch of land scot free which should have been taken from them by the free market years ago. As soon as prop 13 is dead and buried, the better and that day is finally upon us I believe with a deficit of over $1K for every man woman and child in the state. No way to sales tax or car tax us out of this one. |
