My definition of zero sum game may not be exactly right. But even with the increase in the nominal pay, you have to pay for the house, high education, medication, transportation and many other stuff which used to be free. Let us say that the middle class family income is 4000 yuan. It is about worth 400 yuan in 1980's money. We can figure it out how much the usable income will be. It is quiet limited I guess. Meanwhile, the degree of the income gap is quiet large. It is more like a polarized society. Rich get richer and poor get poorer quiet like US. Some thug illegally took over the natinal asset and sold for the private pocket, pretty like those Russia obligarchies.

I never heard of student could not go to the college in the old day becasue the high education is free. Now plenty of them have to give up higher education because the family can't afford it.

Even you got the degree, you may face no job offer after you graduate. College degree worths exact the same as the high school diploma. Wondering people may better of going to the trade school to get some real hand on experience.There are few job security in China. Many people has to sign the contract, renew and review on the yearly base so your boss can screw you. Your value lost rapidly when you pass 35 years old. You gain some freedom but you also pay for the price.

Not really happy about what I see.
