His (Justice Moore's) obstinacy smacks of segregation-era defiance, of state rights versus "the feds," of George Wallace's notorious, and failed, stand in the school house door.

Down here in the South, it smacks of an even more obstinate stand by states rightists against an overweening federal government about 142 years ago.
