Steve,

According to the information at vote2002.ss.ca.gov these are the results of the 2002 California election

Gray Davis Dem 3,469,025 47.4
Bill Simon Rep 3,105,477 42.4
Reinhold S. Gulke AmI 125,338 1.7
Peter Miguel Camejo Grn 381,700 5.3
Gary David Copeland Lib 158,161 2.1
Iris Adam Nat 86,432 1.1

Maybe you could explain to me how the 3,469,025 citizens of the State of California who voted for Gray Davis will feel more "empowered" by this recall? If anything it seems that the recall will be de-moralizing to these voters. This is a case of vandalism not due process. 47.4 percent of the voters elected Gray Davis.

How many voters will elect his possible replacement?

If as you say "we get the government we deserve" Californians are in for some hard sledding.
