AURORA, Ill., Aug 20, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, today announced a significant expansion of its family of WireSpeed(TM) modems with two new distinct product lines enabling service providers to extend service and increase bandwidth to more consumer and small business customers. These two new distinct product lines are based on the new ITU standards for ADSL2, ADSL2+ and Reach Extended ADSL2 (READSL).
The products are currently undergoing testing in customer labs and will be available for volume shipment in October. ADSL2, ADSL2+ and Reach Extended ADSL2 (READSL) will be available via simple software upgrade in January 2004.
Westell believes the new WireSpeed ProLine products are the most superior modems available in the industry today. The WireSpeed ProLine products integrate Westell's latest technological innovations as well as an enhanced memory hardware design.
The entire ProLine integrates Westell's patent pending Dynamic Multi-Hybrid (DMH(TM)) and patent pending Power Spectral Density (PSD) technology. These two technologies help service providers overcome troublesome issues associated with in-home wiring and bridged taps that may affect service delivery and performance. Also included is Westell's TurboTCP(TM) embedded application software, which provides the end user with higher performance software downloads.
The new WireSpeed LiteLine will offer service providers an economical alternative modem line for customers. The LiteLine modem products have a list price that is less than the fully featured ProLine products. The LiteLine product line integrates the basic features required to offer a quality Internet experience. The new LiteLine products will also be capable of supporting the ITU standard G.992.3 and G.992.4 (ADSL2/READSL) and G.992.5 (ADSL2+) features.
"These two new exciting WireSpeed product lines will strengthen Westell's DSL portfolio and offer our customers a real choice in product configuration. Westell further demonstrates its commitment to providing customers with the most technically advanced, highest performing products," said Gordon R. Reichard, Jr., Vice President of Marketing. "As a technology leader, we are driving the industry to bring affordable solutions that enable service providers to extend service and increase bandwidth to the home and small business," Reichard added.
The new WireSpeed ProLine and WireSpeed LiteLine products offer flexibility to customers by providing bridge or router functionality in either Ethernet or Dual Connect interface configurations. Westell believes it is first in the industry to offer service providers an easy way to customize their product offering according to their needs.
The two new WireSpeed lines of products integrate advanced lightning protection circuitry exceeding the GR-1089 standard. They are packaged in a new sleek compact housing, and offer fast and simple "self install" connectivity with Westell's recognized superior performance, reliability and flexibility. Both product lines will be manufactured and assembled in Westell's U.S. factory located in Aurora, Illinois.
The Westell WireSpeed line of modems is recognized for their demonstrated excellence in product reliability and quality. Frost & Sullivan, a global leader in international strategic market consulting and training, awarded the distinguished 2001 Market Engineering Product Reliability Award to Westell.
