Albright says Iraq could be new "breeding ground" for terrorists

Washington-AP -- Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is warning that Iraq could become a new breeding ground for terrorism.
She tells N-B-C's "Today Show" that the U-S could be repeating mistakes in Iraq that were made in Afghanistan. She says the U-S didn't properly support Afghanistan after the Taliban and al-Qaida were ousted, and should have realized that more security was needed throughout the country.

She says Bush administration efforts to link Iraq to al-Qaida was "tenuous at best."

Albright says more international help is needed now to stabilize Iraq.

She said, "It is time for the leadership of our country to admit that we can't do this alone."

Secretary of State Colin Powell is heading to the U-N today to meet with Secretary-General Kofi Annan about the Iraq situation. They could discuss a possible U-N Security Council resolution authorizing international help, and that's a mandate Albright says other nations want.
