The invasion of Iraq was a mistake. That's becoming clearer everyday. Unilateralism is not acceptable in todays world. Now we send Powell to the UN to ask for a resolution to send UN troops to help in Iraq. Kinda like getting the cart in front of the horse, but it is the right move.

Better late than never as they say.

But now we have deteriorating situations in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wesley Clark said:

"Terrorism is a multilateral problem. You cannot defeat it in one nation. You need international police work, teamwork, international harmonization of laws against terror, a whole series of things. You act unilaterally; you lose the commitment of your allies to make it work. That's the one thing that will kill you in the war on terrorism."

I think he's spot on. Bush screwed up and now we will pay the price. We are not more secure against terror. I will be surprised if we are not hit again, and soon, with another 9-11 sized attack.

It's sad that this administration is full of tacticians and folks focused on the calculus of war, and there is no one with a vision of how we as a "world community" need to proceed to deal with the problem of terror. Terrorism will not be defeated in the desert of Iraq.

Bush's policies are bankrupt of idealism, vision and American principles.
