These are the sort of people who would have concluded, after initial reversals in North Africa, that going to war against the Axis was a mistake. Only a cakewalk will please them. It reminds me of those, like Jane Fonda, who used to say they would defend the country if anyone tried to invade our shores. Of course, if it got to that point, the authorities would have proven themselves incompetent. Surely we want to nip things in the bud, if possible, long before they land in Cape Cod. Really stupid conditions do not make for serious policy analysis......
