Hi Paul, most of my information are on paper (sorry). All i could do is to give you some briefly information about the german und swiss market. 1. Germany 1.1 German Telecom German telcom is pushing FR on a Nortel (Passport&DPN) Network (around 100 nodes) with FRAD's from Motorola. There SMDS-Network is running on Cascade and there ISP company uses Ascend. In october there will decide who there main ATM-vendor is for the next couple of years. They planning to buy 500 nodes over the next 2 years. There main telcommunication supplier is Siemens today (what a surprice!?). The interesting thing with Siemens is, that they have a aliance with Newbridge (nothing new or?). But Siemens has big problems to sell this Newbridge stuff. On the other hand they are also OEM for Cascade. This business with Cascade is going very well, at least in the asien market. For political reasons, Siemens will get this contract, but i am not sure what equipment they will offer (Newbridge or Cascade). There main focus on funtionality is B-ISDN,ASDL und IP-services. 1.2 Alternative Carrier There are 3 bigger Carriers: equipment VIAG Interkom (Concert-partner) FR(Stratacom)X.25(Telematics) Arcor(Mannesmann, GermanBank& German Railway) FR(Nortel/Cascade)X.25Nortel o.tel.o (RWE&VEBA) FR(Stratacom)X.25 Nortel and one smaller one: VEW Telnet FR(Cascade)+ FRAD Motorola for voice over FR 2. Switzerland A lot of big private network (e.g Novartis (Pharma), Migros (retail sector)). All of them using Cascade. The swiss telecom is planing to offer private IP-services (voice over IP). Cascade is heavily involved in these planings. 3. Europe Global Link and Telecom Finnland(Cascade-network) are planing to offer voice over IP for the european market in the near future (beginning 1998). bodo
