I am having trouble reconciling part of Moore's defense. It claims that his placing the 10 Commandments there is an expression of Moore’s own First Amendment freedom to acknowledge God. Where does the expression of his personal belief end, and misusing public property and his position as Chief Justice to promote his belief begin?

I don't know how you get around the fact that Moore is being financially backed by the Coral Ridge Ministries, whose mission statement says they are reclaiming America for God. The motive for all this seems very suspicious to me, a perfect rallying point for their grassroots effort to do just that.

It is hard for separatists to ignore a 5000 pound monument that is sneaked in in the dead of night with no media allowed but the Coral Ridge group (who then sells the tapes to raise funds); it's just too blatantly asking for a reaction. And of course, the ACLU is always looking to react anyway.

Watching the groups prostrating themselves on the ground, blowing ramshorns, declaring themselves ready to die for this-- makes it so hard to see the issues clearly. They are just so darn RELIGIOUS about it-- that if the primary effect of the monument wasn't promoting a certain religious POV before (though I think it was based on Moore's statements), it sure it now. Does that change the issue?
