The issue in Karen's analogy is not from the perspective of the parents, it is from the perspective of the child.

If the child perceives the situation as meaning she carries less weight with her parents or has less value in their eyes, then she would conclude that any issue among the siblings would be tilted against her from the start.

Like wise in a court, we want the perception of fairness walking in for the sake of judicial confidence.

The parent's motives for leaving the child's picture out are irrelevant in this context.

Since you could not equitably represent everytype of individual through monuments and symbolic images, my recommendation would be to have none in the courthouse.
