Charles: I think all the bad press EG got yesterday and then the
IBM profits were the combo that propelled the market. USS is up
8 from its low the other day. Funny you should mention that one--
when Barron's ran an article by an EG type slamming USS and saying
that USS wasn't worth 8, the stock fell to 15 7/8, so I loaded up
on it. It closed at 33 7/8 today after trading over 34 and quite
a few analysts have put it on strong buy with short-term targets
of 55 and long-term over 100. USS is expected to post record profits
this year. Just like you said: buy the company you like when it's
out-of-favor. That's what I did with AMD, so time will tell. I've
had quite a few of these kinds of stocks and so far every one has
eventually made money. I'm still trying to harangue AMD into upping
its advertising budget but they don't seem to understand that every
ad dollar spent the right way is a dollar well-spent. Maybe if I send
them enough letters and e-mails it'll sink in.
