You are *way* off-base here. Microprose's Civilization was never based on the license for the board game -- which just happens to have the same name. In fact, a computer version (Avalon Hill) of that board game has been out for a long time and never sold well at all. It doesn't even make the charts.

So, ATVI didn't acquire anything other than rights to a board game which doesn't sell well as a computer game -- contrast that with Microprose's Civ which has sold the million+. I doubt ATVI will have any more success in cloning Civilization than the innumerable others that have tried.

According to the Multimedia Wire industry newsletter yesterday the Civilization series that ATVI acquired is indeed the same Civilization series that Microprose has sold more than a million copies of.

Don't know if that means anything or not to the long-term value of the stock, but it is a franchise that SBYT apparently has lost to a competitor.
