Ted, you already mentioned the history of the Fertile Crescent.

The people have got to want democracy and that's not what I hear from the Iraqi people. Oh they claim they want it but their actions do not follow their claims IMO.

I think most Iraqis want democracy only because they see as a vital characteristic of the modern world, not necessarily because they think democracy in itself is an ideal system of government. Are they ready to enter that world? I believe so. I mean, if they're smart enough to develop bio, chemical, and nuclear weapons, they're smart enough to make the land fertile again and forge an self-sustaining economic system.
