AUGUSTA — Irma Simon told state regulators Thursday that lawns, driveways, new homes and high water levels in the summer have deteriorated China Lake's water quality.
"The lake is a different place now, and it's no longer possible to go back to the days of ebb and flow," she said at a public hearing conducted by the Board of Environmental Protection. Simon said that before 1984 —when the board's first lake order was issued — levels fluctuated more naturally than they have over the past two decades.
