Let's just say that the media left the public with the impression that the White House was under attack.

Similarly to how Bush and his media whores were able to convince more than 50% of Americans (according to polls) that Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda were allied. A completely preposterous suggestion, but one that a gullible public accepted.
