"our Christian duty" is the null set since we aren't Christian However, I remind you that we have an AGNOSTIC duty to help the elderly, make sure all children have a good start in life, protect the environment, foster creativity in the workplace, provide for the mentally ill, and those with disabilities that make it impossible for them to contribute, and make it possible for those who can contribute that they have the opportunity to do so. We have a duty to keep our towns safe, but in doing so to treat criminals with more compassion than they would treat us with (because we lead most effectively by example). We have a duty to make our towns places where all people feel welcome (because it is easier to make people behave well by giving them acceptance, than it is to foster truly good behavior out of fear).
