Amoz Oz has never met or interviewed Sharon. I know because I asked him.
When that purported interview with Sharon appeared on the Jeff Rense site, I disbelieved it (though I am distinctly not a Sharon fan or defender, but a lie is a lie), and though I was unable on the net to locate an email address for Amos Oz himself (it turns out he doesn't use email), I did find someone at Ben Gurion University who would pass the question on to Oz, and email me his response. Which, btw, I sent to Rense, who ran a retraction.
Here is, pasted, the message from Amos Oz forwarded to me by a person at the University named Ellen Moshenberg on May 11, 2002.
Dear _____ ____
I have never interviewed Mr. Sharon. I have never even met Mr. Sharon.
The text you refer to is an interview with a private citizen, an Israeli
extremist who died several years ago.
