THe only way for a virus to execute from a jpeg is if there is an extremely large hole in the jpeg display software. Because it is a fairly succinct standard and undoubtedly something that's been poured over 10 trillion times by hackers, it is doubtful it will emerge as a virus transport.

But embedding information is common -- digital watermarks and copyrights and so forth.
