Placing Blame for the Blackout

nytimes.com To the Editor:

Re "Ambitious Bush Plan Is Undone by Energy Politics" (news article, Aug. 20):

To the Editor:

How can the public take seriously the Bush administration's promises
to investigate the big blackout of 2003 (front page, Aug. 20)?

The last time the administration held meetings to formulate
a better energy policy, the public was left in the dark about the people and companies
that participated in the administration's energy meetings and the amount
of their influence on energy policy.

Will the public again have to sue the vice president, this time
to learn what caused the big blackout?
