It is very easy for a foreign national to obtain a Social Security number and the cost is zero. Anyone who charges for this is running a scam.

The social security number issued is used to report investment income in the U.S. but does not allow employment.

They require only your passport number and personal information. You can even apply for the social security number from your home country or in the U.S. while on a legal stay.

Most foreign investors obtain a loan from a bank doing business both in the U.S. and their home country.
