SNC-Lavalin wins $48M power plant deal

MONTREAL — A subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin has landed a $48-million US contract to build a thermal power plant in New Mexico, the global engineering giant announced today.

The contract with the Farmington Electric Utility System says SNC-Lavalin Constructors Inc., based in Redmond, Wash., will provide engineering and procurement services, and build the new facility.

"We are very pleased with this opportunity to place our technical expertise in designing and constructing gas-fired thermal power plants at the disposition of the City of Farmington," Klaus Triendl, executive vice-president of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc, said in a news release.

Work on the new power facility is slated to begin immediately and should be finished by 2005.

The project is the second the company has done for the utility, which services about 38,000 people.
