Check Jacob's guessing. Makes a great deal of sense. Particularly since I think this occurs before the Bush folk knew they were going to need this kind of info.

I usually agree with Jacob, but I'm not so sure about this one...doesn't smell right.

We knew who met there, and what their purpose was.

And yet no member of any US governmental agency expressed the slightest interest in saving what was in those weapons programs documents, leaving them lay, Iraqi police or not?

Even if we expected to trip over WMDs on the sidewalks of Baghdad, wouldn't we have had an interest in the contents of those papers, for the names of the people running said programs, if nothing else?

Sorry to be so cynical, but I think I'm right about this one.
