Fox Drops Infringement Suit Against Franken

Chaulk one up for the extremist liberals.

It is sad, really, but I think the Fox quote says it all:

"When asked to comment on its decision to
drop the case, a Fox spokeswoman said "It's
time to return Al Franken back to the normal
obscurity he's accustomed to."

The reality is that Fox was on sound legal ground and the judge was wrong. Franken is using Fox's trademarked advertising slogan to further his own financial agenda. In the United States, courts don't permit this.

But Franken won in the court of public opinion, and Fox was smart of enough to recognize this. Still, I wish they had pursued it, as any sensible person would conclude that Franken had no right to use this slogan in this manner.

To some extent, I regard it as a decision by Fox not to get down and mud-wrestle with one of the most idiotic liberals on the planet. Probably a good decision, but disappointing nontheless.
