It was meant to illicit a discussion on what the Bush Doctrine really is. I'll assert that it is already defunct. Else, by applying its tests, then our next target is clear:
1) Threat to the US. There is no bigger military threat to the US than China. Largest standing army, nuclear capability, 'evil empire' government, ICBMs, and historical ruthlessness. Their WMD programs are probably now second to none with the demise of the Soviet Union.
2) Supporter of terrorism. As one of the largest suppliers of weapons worldwide, Chinese arms have been used by terrorists and insurgents for decades.
3) Human right violations/suppression of own people. I don't even need to make an argument here.
So, according to the Bush Doctrine, the #1 threat is China. Therefore, preemptive invasion is our patriotic duty. All who oppose are traitors, according to the rhetoric of many in the right wing media.
So, invade 'em. |
