All it takes is three things: A willingness to discount the strategic competition between the United States and the Soviet Union, which, given our experience in ignoring the threat from the Axis is, well, stupid; an unwillingness to acknowledge the principle of "lesser evilism", by which it is necessary to choose among unpalatable alternatives, with the hope of avoiding the worst of the bunch, which is naive; and an lack of interest in reading points of view different from Chomsky's, and seeking to honestly compare positions, which is generally born of an elitist desire to be contrarian, rather than accept the mainstream view. It is not that there are not those with legitimate criticisms of our current policy, it is that we more often hear from the sources I just described......... |
