Ah, but that is not the neocon reality.

That liberal democracy is better than any other governmental regime

Glad you inserted the word 'liberal' there.

that we should promote civil liberties, elections, and largely free- markets

Neocons are generally anti-civil liberties if their view of the 'morality' of these liberties is involved. The neocon movement wants to dictate morality and behavior on an almost Victorian-era level.

Free markets are fine for a lot of areas, but deregulation (a 'free market' tenet) has been a disaster for energy and telecom. The neocon uber-deregulation dogma is dangerous when applied to these vital service areas.

but that sometimes more active intervention might be called for,

Most of the Republican leadership was opposed to intervention in Kosovo, and very vocal about it (although no one called them 'traitors' at the time). Liberia has shown that neocons are not really interested in assisting countries where civil liberties have vanished. Intervention only seems to be advocated when US self interests are high.

Conservatism is dead. Neoconism seems to combine the worst of the two parties: large government, huge deficit spending, imperialism, and secrecy.
