Pakistani FM condemns blasts in Bombay

(Updated at 2235 PST)

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri on Tuesday issued a personal condemnation of the twin bombings in India's financial capital Bombay.

It was the second formal condemnation in two days from Pakistan, India's

traditional rival. Kasuri called the attacks, which killed 52 people and injured 150, "senseless terrorist bombings" and "an appalling tragedy in which civilians have lost precious lives."

Islamabad was one of the first to condemn the attacks on Monday, its

foreign ministry spokesman Masood Khan calling them "acts of terrorism."

Indian hardliners were unmoved however, with deputy Prime Minister Lal

Krishan Advani dismissing Pakistan's comments as "a mere formality" and

pointing the finger at Pakistani-based militants.
