NATO is under pressure to expand its 5,000-strong peacekeeping force in Kabul outside the confines of the capital, a move NATO commanders say would require thousands of extra troops -- something governments are unlikely to approve.

Hey Ike!.. Don't you think it's time to admit to ourselves that no other nation, except the US/UK, is willing to spend precious national treasure rebuilding either Afghanistan or Iraq?

The UN sounds like it's preparing to vacate Iraq, despite claims of wanting to have full control over the operation... And NATO countries are loath to reinforce their efforts in Afghanistan..

And Pakistan seems incapable of penetrating the tribal regions adjacent to Afghanistan, so Bin Laden's boys have a sanctuary to hide in...

So why not quit deluding ourselves and acting like we should expect these nations to step up to the plate?
