Another Surprise Could Happen for Flash Memory

Why? Possibly because of the growing popularity of digital cameras.

This year, the number of digital cameras sold worldwide surpass traditional cameras for the first time. In fact, there is even a bigger potential in Asian countries.

Up to now, digital camera is still a luxury item to most Chinese because of the high price for both digital camera and flash memory - maybe partially caused by the high import custom duty. I saw a 128 MB memory stick selling for US$110 in Beijing, US$55 in HongKong, while we can get a 256 MB memory stick for about $60 here in the US. (256 MB is not easily available at all there).

However, today I read a piece of news that Chinese start to produce their own digital camera massively and competing with imported items fiercely. Kodak and its Japanese competitors reduced the 2M pixel digital camera to about $120 recently, then a similar digital camera made in China starts to sell for about $100.

Well, when 1/10 of 1 billion population in China convert to digital, you do the math.
