NAND flash supply in Taiwan failing short of demand by 20-25%

Supply of NAND flash memory in Taiwan is falling short of demand by 20-25%, a situation that is expected to last until year-end as global supply continues to tighten, according to Power Quotient International president Richard Lee.
Manufacturers of products requiring NAND flash have expressed concern about the short supply, saying their shipments would be seriously affected if major suppliers like Samsung Electronics and Toshiba do not increase supply in the near future.
Strong demand for the memory has pushed prices for 1GB NAND flash to US$26 recently from about US$16 in May, according to local memory distributors. Despite the surging prices, some local module sellers have reportedly been forced to reduce shipments to clients due to insufficient supply.
Supply will not be able to meet demand at least through the end of the first quarter of 2004, local DRAM module makers quoted Samsung sources as saying.
