Scott, on the issue of Kashmir, you have it other way around. Kashmir's ruler was Hindu and his subjects were Muslim majority. He wanted to join India and Pakistan wanted that Kashmir be a part of Pakistan.

And yes you are right in that millions died in the Hindu-Muslim riots of 1947. But where you need to revisit your history knowledge is that it was a deliberate act on the part of the British to encourage and keep alive the animosity between the Muslims (led by Jinnah) and the Hindus (led by Gandhi, Nehru etc.). They did so, so that they could continue to rule the Indian colony. Theory of divide and rule. But what forced the British to grant Independence was their crippling blow at the hands of Hitler in WWII in 1945. Their economy in England was so crippled that they found it impossible to foot the costs of maintaining their presence in India and control the increasing level of religious riots over there.

And then there is the entire sphere of Netaji Subhas Bose, another Indian leader, who opposed Gandhi/Jinnah/Nehru and colluded with the Hitler/Mussolini/Japan axis to force British's hand into granting Indian independence during WWII. So Indian subcontinent history is very complex. But suffice to say that the blasts there by Muslim extremists has nothing to do with the current wave of Al-Qaeda based terrorism. IT has its own history and its manifestation is unique. We should not easily slip into a typical American response and start to classify it a terrorism connected to the WTC.
